Description
This 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is finished in Starlight Black with a gold-airbrushed hood eagle and features a black leather interior. It is powered by an all-aluminum 572ci Merlin V8 equipped with Holley Terminator X electronic fuel injection, 1,000cc FIC injectors, a Holley Dual-Sync distributor, long-tube headers, dual electric cooling fans, an aluminum radiator, ATI Super Damper harmonic crankshaft balancer, and a high-torque mini starter. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential, complemented by a hydraulically actuated McLeod RXT twin-disc clutch.
Exterior features include a shaker-style hood, vented fenders, front lip and rear spoilers, quad exhaust outlets, and removable T-top glass panels. The suspension was upgraded with a revised front subframe, aftermarket sway bars, tubular control arms, traction bars, and adjustable QA1 coilovers. Braking is handled by Baer six-piston big brake kits with slotted and cross-drilled rotors. Gold-finished 19" Forgeline web-spoke alloy wheels with black centers are mounted with Continental ExtremeContact tires.
The cabin features front bucket seats and custom individual rear seats upholstered in black leather, with matching leather covering the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Interior appointments include air conditioning, a roll bar, Hurst shifter, a Viper alarm system, and a Bluetooth-capable Alpine stereo linked to Focal amplifiers and speakers. The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts gold engine-turned instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, 10k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level.
The odometer shows 49k miles. Service and upgrades include a replacement ignition switch, Optima Red Top battery, reinforced battery wiring with marine-grade terminals, and polyurethane exhaust mounts.
